Pyhät Puut (Sacred Trees) 2025
Pyhät Puut is an onsite installation of 10 trees, originally created for the 10th anniversary of Kosmos festival in Närhilä, Finland. Each tree is decorated with handbuild ceramic masks and beads, inspired by characters from Finnish folklore and forest myths. These elements are attached to the trees with handwoven cotton threads, using different macrame-weaving techniques. The different compositions turn into stories on the tree trunks, proposing relations, narratives and new myths about the creatures living in the Finnish forests.
The 10 different trees: Vellamo, Vesilintu, Ilveskuningas, Tuli, Ihtiriekko, Keiju, Halla, Hongotar, Tapio and Susitar.
